October
40” round (1.5” deep), archival photograph mounted onto birch panel.
This piece is an image of vibrant fall-coloured flower petals arranged on a silver platter. The petals are from flowers we grew in our own garden, and speak to the passing of time, as does the lovely tarnished patina of the silver platter. Flowers are often admired and shown when they’re in their unblemished “prime”, but I loved seeing how much more interesting each bloom became as it aged and took on it’s own character. I also find this aged silver platter to be much more visually interesting than it was in it’s shiny polished state. Although this is an image of the end of the season in my garden, if you look carefully you’ll notice there are seeds from nasturtiums and zinnias - the beginnings of next year’s garden, and a hint of hope for future growth and beauty.
Panel painted soft gold. UV artist varnish applied, ready to hang.
