NEW Sleepover Immersive Art Installation

It has at times seemed like a project that would never be finished, but I’m thrilled to say that our tiny vintage trailer at the edge of the forest is finally ready to welcome guests! We’ve stayed out there a couple of times now, and can report that it’s both magically charming and quite cozy. It’s been a labour of love, but we are thrilled with how it’s all come together!

Situated at the edge of the forest on our property, this whimsical little getaway is nestled between the Tall Grass Maze and the Sea of Sumac. It’s completely off-grid (no power, no running water) but has everything needed for a refreshing escape and connecting to nature.

Along with many practical things like a cooking station, kitchen essentials, and a screened in deck, we’ve included many charming details. Some of my favourites are the duvet cover, table cloth, and floor mat, all printed with artwork that I designed. The tiny curtains are made from my fabric-printed artwork as well, and hang from sumac sticks harvested within sight of the front door :)

There are dried herbs and herbal teas from our own garden, and we’ve planted two gardens just for the use of guests staying at the trailer. These gardens are still getting started, but so far include sage, oregano, mint, lemon balm, dill, cilantro, a couple of zucchini plants, a future rhubarb (ready to eat three years from now), and a whole garden of edible flowers like nasturtium, calendula, marigolds, borage, and bachelors buttons. The gardens have been one of my greatest joys since moving to the country, and I’m so excited to share this joy with others!

There are marked hiking trails through the woods on our property, and a few public beaches to enjoy swimming in one of the pristine lakes nearby. Along with the many opportunities to unwind and connect with nature, there’s also a vibrant local arts scene featuring live music at the annual Killaloe Craft Fair as well as various indoor and outdoor venues, and performances by Stone Fence Theatre. We also have an amazing studio tour (which we are a stop on!) where you can see behind the curtains of the creative processes of many talented local artists and artisans, and pick up some unique art and gift items.

In the near future, we plan to open up applications for self-guided artist residencies - send me an email if you’d like to be put on the notification list for this.

Starting this summer, you can book your stay at our magical wee trailer through either Hipcamp or Airbnb (I’ll add links here as soon as the listings are published!). We can’t wait to welcome guests from around the world to experience all the things we love about being in the beautiful Madawaska Valley, and specifically in this whimsical sleepover art installation at the edge of the woods :)
